India has opposed attempts at the United Nations to turn unverified allegations and incomplete statistics into a “negative characterisation” of the country. Speaking at the UN General Assembly's Third Committee, MEA official Barkha Tamrakar said human rights should not be used for political pressure, amid criticism of police action against youth-led protests.
