According to Crawford, given Vista Equity Partners' ability to identify not only strong acquisition targets, but also identify and acquire other companies as effective add-ons, acquiring Compass may be a good opportunity to add value and accelerate the growth, marketing and vertical integration of Compass. “I think Compass is awesome and Robert Reffkin is brilliant. I also believe Robert F. Smith is brilliant and Vista Equity Partners is awesome. While I realize it is unlikely, the possibility of them coming together is still exciting,” Crawford says.

Online publication Business Insider, reported that Compass was being approached for acquisition by private equity firm Vista Equity Partners. A claim that was denied by a Compass spokesperson. As someone who has followed both Robert F. Smith and Robert Reffkin, Nathaniel Crawford thinks the possibility of acquisition is exciting, even if it is unlikely.

According to Nathaniel, “As the real estate market continues to shift, I believe more companies will see opportunities for growth through acquisition and others will see acquisition as a viable exit strategy, which will continue the consolidation trend we’ve seen in real estate for a while especially in competitive markets like South Florida, New York and California.”

Compass made several acquisitions in 2022 including Consumer’s Title Company of California and Vista Equity Partners’ acquisitions included KnowBe4 and Citrix Systems.
