Small Business Directory Expert Says Standing Out is Key

An expert in local marketing stresses the importance of making local business listings stand out in order to attract new customers.

Arroyo Grande, CA, United States - February 14, 2018 /PressCable/ —

Local business directories have taken the local business culture by storm, but one expert in the field says that unless a small business listing stands out, it may not do much good.

“Too many people are under the impression that all they have to do is create a local business listing and then sit back and wait for the new customers to walk through the door,” says a spokesman from FindUsLocal.com, a free small business directory that utilizes GEO location technology to match the results visitors see with their location. “But if business owners want to reap the maximum results, they need to refine their listings a little.”

He says that in order to create a free business listing that brings in new business, it has to give shoppers the information they need to make a decision about whether or not to visit the store. “Everyone know that they should include their business name, address, phone number, and website, what about the other details that make a local business unique?”

He suggests including things like the hours of operation, special products or services that are unique to the business, menus if it’s a restaurant, and even parking tips to make it easier for shoppers. “The more information you can include, the more likely it is that shoppers will find their way to your store,” he says.

He also says it’s important to keep the small business listing fresh because if it goes stale, it won’t keep its place in the search engine rankings. “The higher a local business listing is in the rankings, the more potential customers will see it,” he says. “And one of the best ways to keep it up there is to continuously ask customers to leave an online review for your business. Once they do, the search engine spiders consider it fresh content, and that helps with the rankings.”

Finally, he wants to remind local business owners that creating a local business listing on a USA small business directory is free. “There’s no reason for small business owners to have to spend thousands of dollars in

" target="_blank">local marketing just to compete with larger stores,” he says. “And that’s why we’ve made our local business listings free to all local shop owners.”

No comeback for Kasatkina as Svitolina wins again in Dubai

Feb 24, 2018

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Top-seeded Elina Svitolina retained her Dubai Championships title on Saturday with a 6-4, 6-0 win over unseeded Daria Kasatkina, who was finally unable to make a comeback. It was the 11th singles title for the 23-year-old Svitolina, who had won a tour-high five titles in 2017, and added Brisbane to that list earlier this year. The fourth-ranked Ukrainian improved to 14-2 for the year. Kasatkina saved two match points to beat seventh-seeded Johanna Konta in the second round, and three against second-seeded Garbine Muguruza in the semifinals. But Svitolina was too strong for her Russian...

Trump Jr. 'loves' Indian media covering his business visit

Feb 24, 2018

NEW DELHI — The U.S. president's son heaped praise on the Indian media and complained of coverage at home, as he neared the end of a whirlwind trip across India promoting Trump-brand luxury real estate. Donald Trump Jr. said at an Indian business summit Friday that life since his father's election "has been difficult from a family standpoint," but that he'd enjoyed the coverage he'd received during this trip. "I love the Indian media. They are so mild and nice," he said to audience laughter, describing how he felt his comments have at times been twisted by some U.S. news...

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Daria Kasatkina saved three match points before knocking out second-seeded Garbine Muguruza 3-6, 7-6 (11), 6-1 to reach the Dubai Championships final on Friday. The unseeded Kasatkina beat the world No. 3 from Spain for the first time in a 2 1/2-hour thriller. She will meet top seed and defending champion Elina Svitolina in the final, after the Ukrainian beat Angelique Kerber 6-3, 6-3. Muguruza dominated the opening set, though Kasatkina squandered four chances to break in the first game. Muguruza converted her only break point in the first set for 4-2. In the second,...

Modi hugs Trudeau amid Indo-Canada invitation embarrassment

Feb 24, 2018

NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau on Friday with a hug, one day after embarrassed Canadian diplomats had to revoke a party invitation for a man convicted of attempting to kill an Indian politician. The invitation was the latest blunder in Trudeau's eight-day visit, which has included everything from criticism of his colorful wardrobe to questions about whether his government is sufficiently critical of Sikh extremists. Jaspal Atwal, a Canada-based former member of a banned Sikh separatist group, had been invited by a Canadian member of Parliament to a Thursday evening party for...

Djibouti seizes control of DP World's container terminal

Feb 24, 2018

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Djibouti has seized control of a container terminal run by Dubai-based port operator DP World, the latest move in a long-running legal dispute over the facility in the East African nation. The nationalization of the Doraleh Container Terminal in Djibouti comes as the United Arab Emirates' interests across East Africa now also include a series of military bases allowing it to project power into the Red Sea and the crucial Bab el-Mandeb strait. A statement on behalf of President Ismail Omar Guelleh's office issued Thursday said the government had "decided to proceed with the unilateral...
